CD Research :)

In preparation for making our own CD for the song we have chose, we have been into shops to look at Cd's of similar genres already out there for inspiration.
We were hoping we would be able to take pictures of the inside of the CD case as well as out, however unfortunately this was not possible as they were in protective casing.

Here is what we managed to get:

Pixie Lott: Front of CD Case

Pixie Lott: Back of CD Case
Pixie Lott's album is appropriate for the genre as it shows her looking sexy and independent. This is typical for women in the pop genre. The dull background makes Pixie Lott stand out more. The font colour and style brings out Pixie's quirky personality.  The album appeals to both males and females, because males can find her sexy and females want to be her, therefore look up to her as a role model. Her Image is young fresh and saucy which therefore appeals to her target audience, which is teenagers to young adults. They are able to relate to her style, image and nature of her songs.

Katy Perry: Front of CD Case
Katy Perry: Back of CD Case

Katy Perry's album cover is appealing to the target audience, it makes use of a cartoon effect, which makes the CD and the artist seem very "fun."  There is a big use of "girly" colours such as pink which shows the romantic, sexy side of the artist which she is often associated with, the font also looks very playful.  The image that is used of the artist can appeal to both males an females, she is shown naked which is highly appealing for males, whilst she is covered up by the cloud looking beautiful which all young females aspire to be.

The Saturdays: Front of CD Case

The Saturdays: Back of CD Case
The Saturday's are again in the pop genre, the CD is highly appropriate for the target audience of teenagers and young adults due to the font and image used, the font used for the bands name, "Saturdays" is done like a clubs name is done, all lit up, which therefore appeals to young adults.  There is a use of the colour blue, which portrays the artists as they are, young and fresh.  The image of the band is appealing to both males a females, females can aspire to them whilst the outfits (which show off their legs) is appealing to males.

Lady Gaga: Front of CD Case

Lady Gaga: Back of CD Case

Lady gaga is not a typical female pop artist, and this is portrayed with her album, she has allowed herself to be original and different from other females artists already out there.  Rather than being shown as sexy and pretty, she seems to have a dark side, shown by the choice of colours, (black, grey) for the album.  The layout is done much like the other artists CDs, with a large image of her and then the name of the album done in a font which stands out.  Lady Gaga doesn't necessarily appeal to most young males and females like the other artists, but she gains an audience of people who aim to be original and different much like her.
Kesha: Front of CD Case

Kesha: Back of CD Case

Kesha is the artist of the song we are using so we are paying extra attention to her CD.  She seems to be a mixture of the typical sexy female artists and Lady Gaga, she does this by mixing sexy images with dark colours.  The font is quite "wild" which shows her rebellious side, along with the dark black background showing she is not at all innocent like artists such as Pixie Lott.  Kesha's album is appealing to her target audience of young adults by looking quite sexy with her facial expression, appealing to females who want to be like her and males who find this look attractive.

As you can see, every one of these has an image of the artist on the front of the CD Case, so this is something we will definitely do for ours.

We've found our artists...

Luckily we have found four confident lads who have said they are willing to be in our music video.  Thankfully they are all also willing to dance and wear revealing costumes for it, here they are:

Joe

James

Niall

Patrick

Locations

The following images are of the locations we are planning on using for our music video:
  • Nottingham City Centre
  • Apple Tree
  • A pitt
  • Shower
  • Room

Nottingham City Centre, we are planning to film the artists dancing to the chorus in this location

Apple tree, this is big enough for the artists to climb up for  some parts of the music video

This is the bathroom which we are able to use, the shower is big enough to fit all 4 artists in, so we will use this to help create the humorous side of our music video

This is the pitt, it is big enough for all 4 boys to fit in but sadly not as deep as we first thought.  We are hoping to have them in here and film it from a birds eye view, so when filming the artists in here we will probably use a ladder

A room that we can use for any of our filming

The shower again.

A swimming pool which we have luckily been given permission to use for part of our filming by Ilkeston Swimming baths

The pool again

Bad news...

We have discovered today that they have taken off the video we put in our "First Ideas" blog, here is a print screen to show this.

What we want to include in our video...

We've been brainstorming ideas of what we could include for our music video:
  • Group of males
  • Dance routines
  • Bright, block colours
  • Different locations

Inpiration! Ideas Board

Whilst on Youtube we came across this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3bRPHPQsOs
This inspired us for our own music video, it uses the recessive ideology of males singing to a females song and so this is what we plan to do :)

Planning and our first Ideas

After looking for songs of the pop genre, we have found a song we think would be perfect for the kind of music video we want to do, it is lively and fun.  Here is the song we are going to use, it is called Uncensored by Kesha.

This is our Goodwin's music video analysis, we did this shortly after having our first ideas about the music video we plan to make, on it we explained how all of our ideas meet the criteria's listed on the sheet
This is just a rough idea of what will be happening in our music video, we listened to the song on youtube and took note of what we plan on happening at certain times in the song.
This is the link to  a video that past students have already done.
